The Inspiration

While pursuing a graduate degree at the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas, Greg Koury developed the idea for Manuel’s. Working with his Grandparents in their steakhouses while growing up, and later managing several local Austin establishments led him to the dream of opening his own restaurant. Rather than the typical Tex-Mex fare, Koury’s vision was to create authentic and artfully prepared dishes from Mexico’s interior and coastal regions.

In 1984 this dream became a reality with the opening of Manuel’s downtown at 310 Congress. As Austin grew and expanded – Manuel’s Great Hills on Jollyville Road in the Arboretum opened in 1998 to serve guests on the Northside of town.

The Leaders

High-quality ingredients, consistency, and friendly service make Manuel’s an Austin favorite. Koury is President and CEO, running the company with co-owners Jennifer McNevin and Ahmad Modoni.

In addition to Manuel’s on Congress Avenue and Manuel’s Great Hills location, the group successfully collaborated on several other restaurant concepts in Austin, including 612 West, The Iguana Grill, and Changos Taquerias.

The Community

Manuel’s has a rich history of community relationships, providing support for food-related programs, charitable organizations, and the performing arts. We take pride in giving back to our city, where many regular customers consider themselves “Manuelians.” Thank you for choosing Manuel’s and allowing us to continue our passion for serving great Mexican food!
